As a part of the District's Strategic Plan, our staff and administrators are finding new ways to amplify student voices. "It's important to encourage their participation in our schools and offer them opportunities to provide us with feedback and share their ideas," says Dix Street Elementary Principal Mark VanderKlok.
Last month, he started a new lunch with the principal with the DSE student council members. This monthly gathering will give him a time to ask them questions about how things are going at school - like the Capturing Kids' Hearts lessons and practices, school expectations and programs.
It is also an opportunity for them to share what's on their minds, the minds of their classmates, or ideas they'd like the school to consider.
This is very similar to Supt. Haase's Student Advisory Councils which have also started meeting at the MS and HS this year.
